What I know about horns wouldn't fill a paragraph but I know that looks very nice...have a question:

Towards the front 1/3 of the horn where the colors make a sharp transition to dark brown, what are the little evenly spaced dark brown/black dots around the transition border...are they just decorative holes made in the edge of the lighter color so brown dots could be made, or are they actually tacks or something holding a separate section of horn together?

Thanks for the nice compliments guys I told him not to expect it to be perfect but I tried to make it nice. Roundball those marks are what the horn makers call engrailing I took my knife and carved out little notchs for decoration

He might like his initial inside the star, but that's his decision.
I'd be thrilled to carry that horn. Could we see another picture from the side?

Trent glad you like it I dont have a pic from the other side sorry ! I gave him the horn and he was very happy. He said it meant alot to him to have me make this horn up for him .

I like the scrimshaw.......very nice clean lines!:hatsoff:

whatever I try doesn't come out quite that nice

I havnt done that much scrimshaw work so I still have alot to learn the tools you use. I used a Xacto knife and a pc of tungsten Tig rod ground to a point. Your work area also helps need to be able to lay your horn on something that will help give you a good position. My lines are straighter but not perfect . I have a horn from a well known maker they are not perfect either
