One could also get a “ smooth rifle” in a smaller caliber. Although I’d seriously consider one of Rob Millers trade guns. Those things are so light and just about as period correct as one can get. A good smooth bore is about as versatile as you can get.

If I ever can afford another m.l. on my fixed retirement income I'll go with Rob- each are similar but individual too! The best imo.

I apologize for being a skipping record but ....love my smoothbore trade guns . Their history intrigues me still but their versatility is great . Ive killed more deer than I can remember ( my favorite food) , turkey , grouse , pheasant , squirrel , **** , coyote , opossum ....never had the opportunity to get a bear , but we ARE getting a bunch of them.in this area of S. Ohio ! , and a friend of mine has killed a buffalo with his so ....pretty versatile .
