Well Boys...here she is. I had Mike Davis build this Southern Mountain rifle for me and I believe he captured pretty much all the "Old Timey" features I wanted. Mike can do rifles and pistols totally "from scratch", forging pretty much everything himself. In this case...in the interest of keeping the cost within my budget, and getting the rifle done quickly he used parts purchased from outside. The barrel is a 40 cal. Rice, 42" long swamped. Lock is LEFT-hand flint...Chambers Siler which Mike did a little work on in order to make it look a little less Germanic, and a little more appropriate to the overall style. Chambers White Lightnin' vent liner, Davis Double set trigger. Maple stock stained with aqua-fortis then hand rubbed Tru-oil. I especially like the "Chevron style" poured pewter nosecap.

here's one a little closer in:

All I need to do now, is figure out the best PRB combination...and get on up to Friendship next month..!!
I'll post up some range results as soon as it quits raining down here. A little time spent already indicates that she likes something around 50 gns. 3f and a tight patch.

Beautiful! Only one issue...the lock is on the wrong side so it won't work :)

I'm not aware of any connection between Mike Davis, and the Davis trigger people. Mike put a Davis double set trigger in this rifle for me, but that's about as close as (I believe)they get. Mike builds guns in N. Mississippi, not far from Memphis, TN. Anyone wishing contact info., PM me and I'll get it to you. He delivers finished rifles in a matter of WEEKS...not years, at very fair prices for the work he does.

Beautiful southern rifle, Don! Love chevron nosecaps on southern mountain rifles, they just to together. Nice curl in that wood, too.

Still need to regulate the sights, but I believe I'm done with load development. I pulled shot # 5 out of the group, but I've only had her a week. It will get better. This one looks like a keeper..!

"Still need to regulate the sights",

At least you are sighting in the rifle, not dialing it in, have never seen a dial nor
mammary glands on a rifle, still looking for dials and mammary glands though.

Nice looking rifle.

Very nice rifle!
I'd love to see the right side, as well.
That is right in "correct" side.
Actual, I am partially left handed, so I shouldn't make fun about it. :)
