I got to shoot my colonial in .54 a bunch this weekend. 70gr. Goex 2f and the only time I swabbed was in between relays. Blew my mind how easy it was to load. Those are great shooting rifles and well worth the price and experience.

Just curious what size round ball and what patch are you using

Still messing with that. That day was pillow ticking and .530 ball with 20% Ballistol/water or spit for lube. I'm going to try pillow ticking, a .535 ball and Moose Juice, B'stol/water, and spit tomorrow. I'll let you know how things go.

Probably headed to Beaverdam Rifle Range in Edgefield, SC tomorrow afternoon if anyone is interested.

If you want the curl to pop a little more after staining, you might try steel wooling (or using fine sandpaper) with 4-0 steel wool. That will knock some of the stain out of the closed grain areas, and leave the stripes darker (due to the end grain of the stripes). My experience with stains (only) is that the figure is left somewhat "muddy" in appearance.

Thanks. I just got .535 balls to try out. I have been using patch lube from Mr. Flintlock. Very good stuff. I bought some 10 oz denim for patch material. Seems to work very well.
