If you use Neetsfoot oil on the inside of the snake skin, it should last many years. The outside of the skin, is more difficult. Have you considered protecting it with a coat of furniture wax? Or paste wax? I have seen people spray snakeskin with acryllic lacquers, but they tend to yellow, and cloud up in sunlight, and then the also peel. I think that using something more renewable, like wax, makes more sense. Yeah, you have to maintain the skin with more wax every month or so, but the skin retains its colors well, and the wax won't dry out the leather bag under it.

Contact a taxidermist in your area. They should be able to help you with that. Beautiful bag.

Use some sno-seal if you have it. It is a high quality clear boot wax. Exquire Neutral boot wax will work also. The Sno-Seal is for hiking and ski boots. It does not have any oil or grease in it, and wont rot the leather.
