I just made my 3rd Horn...I Bought the blank off Ohio Ramrod. I then made my baseplug from a slab of wood that was in my Great Grandpas garage, wood type unknown.Wood pegs to hold the baseplug in and I used Rit Dye to lightly stain the horn. I was going for a "poorboys Revolutionary horn"..What say Ye all?

Thats what I was shooting for.. simple, on a count of I'ma simple kinda guy! I MAY scrim a little on it and do a little more engrailing...I have a problem with leaving stuff alone. BTW I had the "eye" screw laying around and thought I'd use it. Anyone else use this rather than a staple? Just curious.

If I knew you were going to stain the end dark, I had some horns naturally dark at the end. Not bad work, now try the scratching! :idunno:

Awwww,I like eye screw. It's a little different, besides,I have 3 other horns with a a staple and one using the horn itself to attach a strap. I was and still am curious as to if the eye screw isn't PC...I recall seeing one on an original...but I could be mistaken.

A majority of the time I believe the eye screw was used to replace a broken staple or the suchlike, though I may be wrong, that is the useage that I recall most readily.

Actually I have an original that has an eye screw but I think the whole base plug has been replaced probably in the late 19th or early 20th century. It came from the east tenn. mountains and was reportedly used up until the early 50's.
