Ran into this manuscript while poking around the subject of using prickly pear fruits -- or "tunas" -- as a dye source. It is, alas, somewhat problematic; the fiber must be allowed to ferment in prickly pear juice for weeks and yields shades of rose, but not the astonishing magenta of the fresh fruit.
