What do you fellas think of this for a bag fur for flaps? I saved all the hides from my deer this year, working on tanning the sika hides hair-on for flaps, planning on centering the back stripes/spots down the middle of the flaps.

Gotta get to work on the whitetail hides tanning hair-off for the rest of the bag, got two in the garage thawing now for fleshing...

I like it. It might be really cool to keep that black and white fringe along the bottom of the flap, too. Show us when you're done!

XXX stop n check fresh(last 24 hours) road killed doe's. Many of them this time of year and the next month or so will be carrying fawns that ya may be able to use.You can generally feel the size of the fawn in her belly . Yea it sounds cruel maybe ,but two died when the doe got hit, useing the doe's hide and the fawn's gives them another life so to speak. Just check with yer game people to see if its legal or not, sure hate to do all the work n then lose it to some , well I won;t go there LOL

I think it would look great.

How bout incorporating the black, brown and spots, that would look neat.
Keep us posted on this project.

Osprey, I don't see how you could go wrong with that hide, it appears to have alot of character to it. You will just have to figure out the best way to incorporate the natural design of the hair for a flap. Thanks for sharing and keep us posted.

Might make a neat shooting bag for the range or open event, but I don't think that I woud want to wear it in the woods for hunting!.....Natural target for jumpy Pilgrams!

That would look very nice. My only concern would be the constant breaking off of the hair. Or don't Sika deer hides do that? I have white tail hides tanned hair on and the hair will break off, a little at a time, but it does break off. You can pick them up and shake them and the hair will come off.

I did the back 1/3 of a big stag hide at the same time, with thoughts toward a special display project... (yeah, I'll post pics when I get around to making it)

...and lo and behold my taxidermist calls and says the rest of him is done now! He's on the lower left of the wall of fame, biggest neck and prettiest fur of any of them so far. Hair is almost blonde on top of his head, so old and sunbleached.

Swampy, something should be in the mail for ya next week. Getting ready to go out and flesh the last doe hide now, so I'm about to be over-run!
