Gents-

I am in the process of building a large dragoon pistol which will only look right with a tapered ramrod. The pictures of the original that I am using as inspiration shows an ebony or possibly horn button on the end.

Do any of you have a lathe, the time and inclination to help with this project? :hatsoff:

I don't have a lateh but have put several horn & ebony tips on RR's. I drill the hole in the tip & then turn down the RR end on a belt sander til it will barely slip into the tip, then epoxy & pin the tip to the RR. When it is dry go back to the belt sander & round off the tip.

I am not sure that I know what you are asking. If you are
asking about tapering the ram rod, I do that by sanding
it with a sanding belt, disk sander or a sanding block.

If what you want is the ram rod end turned down and/or
the ebony/horn turned out, fit and installed, I would be
glad to help.

Don’t taper the rod till after the tip is installed.

If you can’t find anyone closer and send me the raw material,
postage is all it will cost you.

Good luck, have fun, be safe.
