A friend's daughter killed her first deer this past fall, using her boyfriend's muzzleloader (one of those types we refer to as That Which Shall Not Be Named). Not too surprisingly, she wants a muzzleloader of her own for next deer season. Having built guns for her older brother and sister, and being at work on one for her dad, I've made it my mission to save her from That Which Shall Not Be Named, by putting together a halfstock percussion in .50 caliber, using a CVA Bobcat barrel I paid only a tiny bit too much for on eBay. Luckily (for the girl, who's sold on "modern" -- not for me) the barrel is equipped with Williams fibre-optic open sights (I find that if I keep a ring of garlic around it and a crucifix in plain view, the unholy thing is unable to venture from the corner of the bench where I keep "pending" projects). What didn't come with it is the breechplug tang. I could make one quite easily out of a section of 15/16" barrel -- have done so before -- but I'd just as soon buy one if it could be had fairly cheaply. Suggestions welcome....
