My neighbor-friend just got a .50 cal Lyman Great Plains Hunter (1:32 twist) and we were looking at projectiles for it. I like the looks of the Lyman Great Plains bullet due to the shape...the large meplat looks like it would transfer a lot of shock and make a nice wound channel. (Reminiscent of an LBT design which is all I use in my hunting handguns.) Do any of you have any experience with this bullet in this gun? I know that's a pretty specific question, but unfortunately, I can't find anyone who sells these bullets pre-cast, and my friend doesn't want to buy a $50 mold only to find out it won't shoot accurately from his rifle. I understand the Shocker is supposed to shoot well in this gun, but it's a little too pointy for my taste. I'm sure penetration would be great, but I feel it might not spank a big elk as hard as the Great Plains bullet.

Thanks for your input, folks!

I had the same m/l seem to favor goex 85 grains 3f a wonderwad, and 320 grain REAL conical,it would shoot clover leaf groups all day. There is a guy from florida that sell the REALS and other conical at a fair price.
He has a site on e bay BLACK JACK HILL :redthumb:

Lonewolf, I have an REAL mold, so I can cast up some 320's for him. I've gotten great accuracy from the Lee bullets, but he's wanting a bullet weighing around 400 grains, so that's why we were contemplating the Plains bullet (395 grains).

Old Salt, I did try to tell him that a 395 grain bullet at nearly 1500 fps is going to dish up more than a little push to his shoulder, but he pointed out that he wants it strictly for his "business" load. ::
