Purchased a .50 cal percussion cap rifle at an auction the other night. The auction item guide listed the item as a UBERTITI(or somethihng to that effect). When I looked at the rifle it said two things:
Made In Italy AND on the top of the barrel close to the breech it said: LYMAN, Middlefield, Conn.
The gun barrel also says: Great Plains Rifle
The question is this: On the side of the barrel where there is some other marks, there is an "I" inside of a square. I have one other rifle with this mark and was told it is an Invest Arms. SO I am wondering what exaclty it is? I thought, in my own limited education, a Lyman GPR was in and of itself a seperate brand or manfacturer. Do these markings indicate that it is actually an import and I DON"T know anything more then I thought I knew yesterday?
I have no problem with the gun as it is in GREAT shape and I only paid a hundred dollars for it. The one other Invest Arms I have is a GREAT tight shooting little rifle, also in .50 cal.
Thanks for any help,
