Hi,A friend has a cva mountain rifle in 50 cal.Its a flintlock with a maple stock,silver fittings.It doesnt appear to be very new but it says made in spain.Can anybody give me some info on this gun like how old and is it worth 250.00.Thanks.

Most likely from the 70' or 80's. If it is in good condition it is definately worth $250. L&R makes a replacement lock if the CVA lock doesn't spark well. I think that it will fit the Mountain rifle. 32" barrel with 1-66 twist. Great round ball shooter.
I could be wrong, but I think the year date is on the barrel? Mine has a 91 date.
It all depends on condition. The guns with non brass furniture bring a little less. For 250 it better be real nice, and like new!

Thanks for the quick come back rebel.Yes its in good condition.Not new but very good.It sparks real well and shoots very good.It has the double wedges and nickel silver patchbox,butstock and forearm.I always thought the older ones were made in usa.I wanted to check before handing him 250.00 tomorrow.
The parts to build one can be bought new from Deer Creek for 220$ There have been varied reports about some of the DeerCreek barrels lately. You could order everything but the barrel and buy a Green Mountain barrel and still be at about 300$ or so for a new gun. CVA still had some of the latest batch for sale a year ago. Unless it was a Big Bore or in absolutely new condition, 250$ is getting a little pricey in my opinion. Very nice guns. My main rifle is one of the original production.
