While checking out a local pawn shop for BP firearms I came across a Navy Arms (Pietta) 12ga bp shotgun this is not in itself remarkable however this gun has rifle sights on a rib mounted between the barrels the rear sight is adjustable for elevation and the front sight is keyed into the rib like a woodruff key and is removeable.this gun came with nipples for both #11 caps and musket caps and a sling and swivels. both bbls.measure .720 inside at the muzzle.the gun appears unfired the bores are bright and shiney and the wood is unmarked.I walked out with the gun for $150. Did Navy arms market the gun this way or do I have some ones Idea of a poor mans Cape gun??--spud :hmm:

I don't recall Navy offering such a gun but I guess they could have. At any rate $150 for a functioning double is a steal, these days it is hard to find one for double the money.

I don't know about the sights. But you got a great deal on it. I'll give you $200, and pay shipping for it. If not, have fun and make some smoke. Leon

Did you get arrested for walking out of the store with that gun???

NO really,,
That gun is worth in the $400 to $500 price range.

Great find!!!!

Enjoy shooting it..

New Pedersoli double barrel shotguns are going for over $700 new at Cabelas. I would say you got a great bargain.

In my part of florida (Largo,St.Pete,Tampa) there is little to no market for used BP guns.if you go into a local pawnshop with cash and ask them if they want to sell it or look at it for the next five years they will go for your offer.if not head for the door! cuz the guy down the street will.

In 1978 I purchased that shotgun from Navy Arms and upon receiving it, looked it over w/ a critical eye and found 23 quality issues{some serious} and sent a letter to the owner, Val Forget listing all 23 items w/ a request that he call me. He called a week later and told me I'm too fussy and besides, did I think I was buying a Purdy for that kind of money? Shipped it back w/o a problem. I have to thank Mr. Forget because I realized if I wanted quality MLers, I would have to build them and have done so. Probably yours has improved quality seeing the "stuff" that was pulled on customers back then, is no longer the way to do business. Wanted that double for grouse hunting and it handled nicely but I just couldn't get past the poor quality. Mine had only a front bead and perhaps your's was retro-fitted by some owner?.....Fred

I haven't found any Quality problems with this gun so far. shooting 70gr Goex ff .695 ball w/.020 denim patch at 30yrds the left bbl shoots to point of aim the right 1-1/2 inches high and 1-1/4 to right fine for close range florida pig.I was suprised! I am going to keep it for a while then put it up for sale on the forum--Spud

 I,d rather trade but thats for another forum not smoothbores  spud

Just curious, Spud - not to hijack your thread at all, but where do you shoot in the area? I live in Palm Harbor, and have a number of friends that have BP guns/cannon, and we have a hard time finding places to shoot.

Spud, Now....I really think ya get GREAT DEAL
ON THAT GUN!!!especially since it transformed
itself  ( secret)
and thank you again! This post helped me jump to .45 Status !!!!!
