I took my Walker apart today to clean the factory preservative off of it and had trouble reinstalling the main spring. After much name calling to that b$#^%$*, I finally got it back on by leaving the front screw in the trigger guard in place and inserting the two remaining screws after compressing the spring and holding it in place. Is this correct or is there another way or possibly a tool to hold the spring in position? Thanks

Well, my mainspring broke and I got a replacement. I followed the distributors good advice of tying the spring to a compressed condition but used #12 gauge electrical wire (with insulation) instead of twine. I could not get the spring back in but I have weak hands and no mechanical abilities. A friend was over one day and he and attempted to fix the beast. 4 hands and 3 or 4 attempts in about 30 minutes and we had it fixed. I could not have done it alone. One of the most difficult parts of the operation is releasing the wire or twine once everything is in place. bronsht

I used channel locks on a Jukar to hold the spring together. It worked, but I wouldn't use this method on any original as it might mark the spring.

Only took one of my Walker mainsprings out once, for internal cleaning. Used a rifle mainspring vise to compress the spring to get the triggerguard back on. Had to maneuver it a bit to find a place it would fit, & didn't get any more compression that needed to start the TG screws, as I recall. Gotta be careful not to strip the screws doing the hand held trick.

Sorry for coming in so late to this thread but I just joined the forum.
The trick on the Walker spring is use the Walker wrench(the one with the "U" shape in it)
On break down:
1.) Loosen the screw on the bottom of the grip.
2.) Loosen and remove the two upper backstrap screws.
3.) Remove the bottom grip screw.
4.) Remove the backstrap and grip.
5.) Full cock the hammer. Place the Walker wrench "U" over the mainspring and under the trigger guard.
6.) Pull the trigger to relieve the spring tension on the hammer. The wrench will hold the mainspring in place.
7.)Remove the 3 screw on the trigger guard and pull off the trigger guard.
8.)Now compress the spring however you like and remove the wrench. Mainspring will come off.

On re-assembly:
1.) Attach the mainspring to the hook on the trigger guard.
2.) Compress the spring using a pair of plier or c-clamp. Be sure to use some padding on the jaws to prevent scratching of the spring and trigger guard. Slip the Walker wrench over the spring and triggerguard.
Now you can reassemble much easier.

Hope this helps.

Thanks in advance. Won't be able to shoot it again for a couple of weeks and I'll try it then.
