I have this really neat pirate costume it needs 2 flintlock pistols.
I have seen flintlocks with a rod on one side for sliding in belt or waistband that leaves the entire pistol exposed. Because this is a for-show outfit, I would like to get two of them. What is this pistol called?

any pistol can have one. I't's called a belt hook, dixie gun works sell them. they're held on by the lock screw. got one on a .50 kentucy - style pistol I built, very handy.

British Sea Service pistols often had belt hooks (a metal rod or strap parallel to the barrel & on the side opposite the lock). Other navies also used belt hooks & there were slight differences in shape/length based on nationality. Belt hooks are sold by some suppliers and can be added to most pistols. Typical British naval officer might carry a pair of brass barrel pistols. Typical pirate would carry whatever he could get.

A common pirate pistol was the Miquelet.Orrrrr
anything else they could geet their hand on..

The Scottish pistols (made in India) from Middlesex Village Trading Company have belt hooks on them when you purchase them. They run around $300 each, so a pair won't be cheap, but they're nice looking pistols.

Now how a pirate got a pair of all-steel Scottish pistols is a story you can make up yourself...

eBay often has inexpensive, cast metal, non-firing replicas. They aren't accurate copies, but rather "costume" quality and you will have to add your own clip.

Here's an example of the belt clip...

I like the looks and feel of Pedersoli's Queen Anne pistol. They look great with the cannon shape muzzle barrel. They are light weight, well made, will fire if you want, and are of very good quality in materiels and build. Kits are available because the finished guns are now well over $200 but they hold their value. they have a brass barrel model you might like and it is brass applied to a steel barrel for strength. they make one with a faux ivory stock too
