I just received today a new 12 bore English fowler from Track of the Wolf. It was built by J. Bergmann and is a lovely piece of equiptment. I had Track send it to Lowell Tennyson to put a jug choke in the barrel, he opened it out to 34 thou giving it a full choke.

I'll be out next Sunday patterning it and working up a load. Happy days. :)

Sounds like it ought to make a good turkey gun, congratulations Croppy Boy.

Of course, it oughta point real good at a squirrel, too.

Got any pics?

I'm afraid the only turkeys we see around here are the ones we buy in the shop at Christmas. The gun will be primarily used for pheasant, rabbit and wood pidgeon.

Don't know if you can see it but the builder did a nice job engraving the wood and furniture.

The lock is made by L&R and the 42 inch barrel by Getz

Cool sideplate. I like interesting designs instead of the typical PC stuff. Shows the guy didn't just slap some casting on.

That's a casting from the Rifle Shoppe, as is the rest of the brass.

I had the gun out yesterday and started with 80 grains of FFg, over powder wad, 1/2" cushion wad 1 1/4 oz of no. 5 shot and two over shot cards. I fired at paper at 30 yds, the pattern was a lot better than my cylinder gauge Pedersoli but still had holes in it. I then tried the same powder and shot but using over shot cards only, there was a bit improvement in the pattern. I moved back out to 45 yds and tried it, increasing the powder to 90 grains and got a good killing pattern.

I did notice if I swabbed the barrel with lube after loading, the pattern appeared to be more uniform.

The only draw back is the pattern appears to be about a foot right of POA. I'll do more checking on this and play around a bit more with loads. I have to admit I'd be a bit slow to start filing the barrel and a heck of a lot slower to wrap the barrel around a tree.
