I own a Pedersoli "American Jaeger" flintlock, don't care for the fast twist barrel and was wondering what would be the possibility of purchasing a slow twist barrel and mount it in my stock. I would have to match up the breach plug tang, and mount the same type of underlugs as on the original, what do you folks think, and yes I know it would cost the price of a new barrel and breach plug, but am willing to lay that money out to get the type of rifling I want. I really like the feel of this little gun, fits me great.

I can't answer your question but could your barrel be bored out to a larger caliber and have the new rifling cut to a slow twist? Greg

contact flintlocks etc. ,they are the importers of pedrsoli arms. or as stated bobby hoyt could rebore to later caliber, ie 56, or 58 Robert Hoyt at the Freischutz Shop, 700 Fairfield Station Rd., Fairfield, Pa. 17320. His phone # 717-642-6696

you may have to 'keep trying' to reach Mr. Hoyt ... when he's in the shop, he can't really hear the phone ringing. regrettably, he does not have a website, which I suppose is a testament to his work.

when you do reach him, I am sure you will find him to be an engaging and accommodating fellow. his work is absolutely first rate, and his prices are more than fair.

good luck with your project!

mr. hoyt has done 3 barrels for me. all work was top notch. the only time he could not honor my request for a 54 cal rebore on a 1 inch barrel was due to a soft spot in the metal. he did however rebore it to 56 cal. shot like a dream.
price would be 1/4 cost of a new barrel.

Thanks to everyone, when the time comes,( read that when I have the money ), I will give mister Hoyt a call and see what he suggests, in the meantime I'll try some different round ball patch combinations and some slugs and see what I can come up with. A good friend of mine would like me to join him on the muzzleloader hunt next year and this is the rifle I would like to use, but I have always been a round ball shooter in all but my civil war muskets. I am not too happy about going up to .58 in this rifle, some complain that it's not as accurate a caliber as the smaller ones, like .50 and .54, but it would definitely take down any mulie I got close enough too.

My .58 Hawkin(s) I have two, are as accurate as the smaller calibers. I do not shoot mag loads though, I shoot about 75 grains and they are great. They DO have a bit more "rainbow" to the trajectory but once ya learn kentucky-windage you do fine.

how a rifle shoots depends on the rate of twist, the type of projectile. mr. hoyt is a master barrel maker. follow his advise. I have owned 3 58's. all where able to shot 3 shot 2-3 in. groups at 75 yards. my eye site limits me to that. you much find the correct load that works in a gun.

I have one and it does equally well with Speer .530 Round Balls with .010 patches, or Lee R.E.A.L. slugs in the heaviest weight. Been very happy with it. Twist seems to be slow enough for the round ball and fast enough for the conical.

The Doc is out now. :hatsoff:
