Please, anyone and everyone speak out about this.
To new and older black powder firearms users. I seen a post on fb that could cause people to get extremely badly injured.
There is a huge difference between black powder and smokeless black powder and I want to make a few things clear.

1) Do not try to use any smokeless powders in any type of muzzleloader, UNLESS IT SPECIFIES IT.
2) If you don't understand the difference between black powder and smokeless powders. PLEASE ASK FOR ASSISTANCE.
There are numerous places that can be contacted to assist you.
3) Just because black powder firearms and muzzleloaders are considered to be older or primitive weapons. They will kill you just the same as a modern firearms.
4) Please take a proper training class prior to using any firearms.

Ummmmmm .... is this like the preacher preaching to the choir? Sorry, no disrespect to the OP intended, it just seems like a waste of forum server bandwidth. Especially with all those caps in the title.

There are people on social media who get away with something once and they think that makes them experts and genius innovators. Modern steels are pretty darned good . . . but when they let loose you don't want parts of your body nearby.

When I was young a kid my age in our church decided to drop a match in a car's gas filler port. He lived. His friend didn't. Horrible burns and facially disfigured for life. Why? Just 'cause sometimes people do stupid things.

Read the can of Goex.

Probably not something for the New Member Introduction sub-forum, but I’ll play.

First off, welcome to the forum from Western North Carolina.

Appears you are pretty high strung and stressed about the possibility of using smokeless powder in a muzzleloader. Never a bad thing to be safety conscious. Question for you. Seems you forgot to tell us how you know you have smokeless or blackpowder before you load up. Please tell us how you check for powder type before loading? Would have to assume you have a procedure without relying on those pesky product labels. Personally have observed most powders, smokerless and blackpowder, appear black to grey in color when you look at them.

thank you

Once you have made it to this forum 99.9% have gone thru most things to know about black powder. I suppose there may be that .1% that may be helped. I have certainly learned a lot on some technical issues though, but this like other forums has fact and has bull so research what you are reading. My advise to you is read and learn.:)

I recall 'That Guy' a year or so back on FB telling people he had "worked out a system" or some such for using Smokeless if you "can't find BP".
I didn't bother to read it all for others were already scolding him.....stupid is as stupid does (I would more but this is not a 'political' thread).

So long as there are people who want 'Rework' what has already been worked; there will be fools....and unfortunately loss of limb and life.

I had a very good friend who has now passed on.

He was working up some duplex loads for an unmentionable using BP and modern powder to shoot 1000 yard matches.

It failed and shrapnel hit his scope and his eye, lost his eye and had to learn to shoot from his left side. Could have been worse.

Do not EVER put modern powder in ANY gun designed for BP

There must be a book, "Stupid Things to do When Starting Muzzleloading". The same dumb mistakes are done over an over again, by those who must not have a search engine to find out others have done the same dumb thing before. But someone always has to hold the turd in some other manner they think no one else has tried, to see if they CAN polish it. News flash. Many of us have done this for years, and others have done it for centuries before us. You are not going to re-invent the wheel. Take advantage of the wheels we know that go round and round.
