I am getting ready to do my first build. Could you please post pictures of your benches and supports for your builds. Also any tools you recommend.
Thanks
First tool I would recommend is lights! Lots of strong lights. What will be this first build, a cheap kit or Kimber? The cheap kit will require more tools and skill.
I am starting from scratch with a precut stock, siller lock and green mountain barrel. Will be taking a class at Log Cabin in Lodi but want to get a bench at home set up to work on it and other builds in the future. Looking for pictures of homemade vises, supports and jigs other builders use in their shops.
Good idea to start with classes. I like a bench that I can walk around, and I store heavy stuff under it to make it stable. This swivel base for the vice allows the stock or anything to be turned to best advantage. The roll around tool box has files, chisels and assorted tools.

I find having tons of light, and 2 vices critical. I like to be able to sit down while doing a lot if fine work (like inletting or carving) but stand up for other work, like heavy rasping. That's why I actually have 3 vices on my bench, (made out of 5 sheets of 3/4" plywood so as to be very solid) which mostly serves as a place to set tools down.
