thanks to Swampy now I'll have to build one.... :haha:

Have to thank Joe for parting with it and letting me have that.

Now to get a nice piece of Cherry....

I should be picking some up at the end of the month.

Roy,

Where are you getting cherry? Is this a bulk order or are you just getting a single piece?

That piece has character . You need to duplicate it without fail!

Wayne Dunlap hand selected a beautiful cherry blank for my New England Fowler. He's done this on several other pieces that I've had made also. He'll work with you to get what you want if you'll give him a little time.

I usually meet with Freddie Harrison a few times a year and will usually get a half a dozen blanks from him. Funny enough he is the only wood guy that has ever called me up just to see how I was doing lol. I get some wood from Wayne time to time. Both fellas are good people to work and deal with.

Don't know how well you can see it, but the wood does have some figure to it.

Well, I'm no expert but there seems to be a good deal of similarity between your stock and this New York made rifle.

This particular gun features a Golcher lock, checkered wrist, and brass patchbox. It's not an heirloom piece, and I suspect this style of gun was the 19th century equivilent of a Montgomery Ward special. Nothing about the gun suggests high quality, but it was showy enough to get a buyers attention, and someone must have had years of fun with it.

:hmm: Roy, your New England rifle looks more like a New England fowler to me!

Kind of hard to be a rifle or for that matter a flintlock rifle I guess without the barrel or the lock huh? :haha:

:hmm: Don't know how much you would want to spend, or if it would be justified money wise, but that could for sure be restored to shooting condition with new components while maintaining the oroginal aged finish.. :v

I think I will leave it as is and make a copy. That way I'll always have it to make copies from, if I restored it someone would want to buy it.
