Just posting this because. The other day I was just a little late on calling on a used flinter (my first) and I was a little upset. But today I got an offer to order a new Traditions Deerhunter that I can afford. It will be a couple of weeks until I get it, but it will be worth it. I know it is not the best out there, but it is in my price range, and it is not my first Traditions muzzleloader. The company has treated me very well in the past, minor things, and the customer service is very good and prompt. Just very happy now, and thought I'd post. :: :: ::

thats great! Get that flinter,I'm saving for one myself, want to get a 62. cal smoothbore it will cost a bit more but it's what I want. More useage for me (squirrel,rabbit,bird,etc...).Good luck to you. shot my brothers flint, love it. some day....I'll have my own.

I have a Deerhunter Flintlock and I killed a nice buck with it on the first shot in the field. When you get it, cock it and then try to move the hammer side to side and see if it comes off full cock. If it does, the lock is not safe. That seems to be the only bad issue I have found on some of them. The touchhole is too low and the pan needs to be made a little deeper. They take a very small flint and they work best with it in the jaws bevel down.

Good for you! I have a Traditions caplock that served me well for a long time. I just graduated to a flint myself. Let us know how you make out! :front:

Runner , if you have a loose hammer you can see if the locking screw is too long, you can either file it down or add a flat washer under the screw. If this doesn"t work send it back.RunningBear. :m2c:

RunningBear, not a loose screw problem. Production tolerances combined with no bridle. Fixing the problem on one of the bad locks would require sleeving the plate to tolerance.

Thanks for the replies. I will check out the lock before the purchase is done. Unfortunately still waiting for the shipment to come in.
