new frizzen

I have a 45 TC flintlock from the late 1970s with original frizzen and old style ****. Have been told that TC only case hardened that vintage of frizzen???? This one looks like some bad road but still lights up prime very consistently. No idea how many shots through the gun. Has been shot a lot by many different shooters (it gets a lot of rides to the range and will get pulled out if someone shows interest in shooting a flintlock). Stock has been redone twice. Barrel was blue, now brown. Have a modified Lyman frizzen as a spare for it but has not been needed.

Having made and shot my own flintlock since 1963 I make the Hammer(for you over there a frizzen) for Mild Steel (.06% carbon),case harden about .008/.010 thou,then using LOW temp silver solder sweat on a face made from CS70 spring steel (available from model eng.supplier in strip) quenching from the soldering temp face down into cold clean water, clean up any remaining flux and use them until they are worn thru'.Take off the old face and replace,-- about every 15/20 years.Possibly 15,000/20,000 Shots.Flints last 30 to 50 strikes if you re-Knap in the lock..

Well I wrote a post just yesterday and cant find it .But could be put into wheellocks as the post prior had mentioned wheellocks ?. But Greenswilde is right only I used EN9 a tool steal used for scraper blades and I put in three small holes to affix the new face to the steel (Frizzen) by small rivets some made of Swiss file handles then ran silver solder round the overlapping edges and brought it to heat ere I quenched it and ground of the overlap with a stone where I couldn't reach. Positive fire risk . Greenswilde we probably know each other via MLAGB? Regards Rudyard
