These are India-made guns. Well, that's not exactly accurate. Loyalist Arms gets their components from India, and assembles, tests, and tunes them in their shop up in Canada, thus assuring better quality control than the outfits that import finished guns from India....

They are going to send me some photos of the new Engish Trade gun when they arrive and I will post them here if I can figure out how.

I do have some photos of the prototype.

Looks to me like they went through a buffet of French gun parts that covered quite a few years and came up with a gun that represents nothing in particular, I would suggest they do a bit more homework.

Right-o tg! Looks like "close but not quite right" just like all the Indian made stuff! If that butt dropped any more it'd fit under your arm!! :haha:

Does it come with a free Elmer Fudd hat? :haha:

There are many things wrong about this particular "gun", in fact it is rather scary representation. I'm not about to tell this company what those things may be if they can't figure it out for themselves....unless of course they would like to hire me on as a consultant! :winking:

Mike,Wes Tg, I have to agree and I guess I'll have to do a little looking through my stuff before I chime in. I posted similar comments concerning this gun before pictures were available and I still want to see the complete sideplate. This was on either the Native or the French Marine list and got very little reaction except on the rather attractive price.

except on the rather attractive price.
The same could be said for buying a Yugo......No matter how cheap you could buy those little cars, when it was all said and done you still only had a Yugo.... :shake:

What do you do if a mainspring or something breaks. Also, are the screws on something like this metric ? Hummmmm.

Their springs are guarenteed for a year they say and they do carry spare parts. So it shouldn't be any more of a deal than any other gun.

Here we go again, condemning a gun as a piece of manure, sight unseen. We can be sure it's not a perfect match for an original but it’s close enough for most of us. I know it’s not a $2000 custom but that doesn’t make it junk. I’ll reserve my judgment until someone gives us a hands on review.

You said it, not me. :winking:
If you had ever seen an original early 18th century french fusil in person, you'd realize what a rediculous cartoon charicture this piece actually is. :shake:

But not all of us can afford a rolls, some of us have to drive a chevy and be happy. It remains to be seen if this one is a chevy or yugo. :v

Mike,
As a loyal Forum member, you might enlighten your fellows as to what is so incorrect about this piece. That would be of much greater value to newbies, novices, and those who are not expert in the nuances and details of French firearms, than nonspecific condemnations and wisecracks.

Personally, I'm not interested in the gun (I carry a Jim Chambers long fowler), but posted the link because the attractive price would be of interest to members here. I hate to think I'd be leading someone to a lousy gun, so maybe you can kindly educate us....

Most of the guys in our provincial regiment now own an Indian LA smoothie for battle reenactmnets. A lot of the guys also own something custom. We don't worry too much when the cartoon gun gets wet or banged up. IMHO they are adequate for public tacticals and battle reenactments. These guns also represent a good value for someone who wants the generic experience of shooting an 18th century long gun.
It would be great if a domestic manufacturer worked with someone like Mr Brooks to produce authentic long guns at prices that are competitive with the Indian and Italian products.

who cares what anyone thinks if you like it buy it if it works fine if not have it fixed but dont listen,or care what the self centered upper crust wanna-be~s has to say about it opinions are like_(a--h----) some just stink more than others : :nono: :shake: buy what you want, ive noticed almost every post that deals with non-custom firearms ,gets slammed this is not right! a picture of a 500 dollar gun , should have the same respect as a picture of a 5000dollar gun i appoligise in advance, for i know i will offend someone but this just my opinion, and im sure it stinks to some

A large number of folks in this hobby cannot afford the $1500-2000 or more it takes to "get it right" when it comes to guns. They have two main choices currently, a) buy the $600 "sorta close" gun from India or b) get $600 worth of "right" parts and build it themselves. Not everyone can do or is willing to try b). The India muskets have their place and thankfully provide a source for arms to those who cannot afford custom guns or do not have the skills to make them.
