Hey forum, I basically have an original Leman rifle in 36. Bore is really bad. Love the rifle the rest is sound and attractive. Is anybody familiar with a shop or Gunsmith that can re bore a barrel to say 50, if possible? Is this done, or frowned upon ? Thanks

Try Bobby Hoyt. He can put a liner in it to keep it 36 caliber, or bore it out to a larger caliber. He has worked on multiple barrels for me and many others.

Yes Bobby Hoyt put a liner in one of my rifles and if I need any more they will go to him.

Going from a 36 to a 50 is a lot of bore change. Is the metal thick enough to give you adequate safety margin if you remove that much? Given that this is a vintage barrel, odds are that the metallurgy isn't as good as today's products. Even if it is, the gun certainly has unknown mileage on it.

If you don't want to go the liner route, you might think about intermediate calibers, starting with a 38, then 40, 42, 44, 45 etc. 38 cal shoots .375 balls, which is what 36 cal revolvers shoot. Those are readily commercially available if you don't want to go the cast or custom mould route.
