Hello, everyone. My name is Bob and I'm located near Helena, Montana. Sounds like an AA introduction...
I'm not really very experienced with black powder; I have a couple of cap and ball revolvers from when I thought I might do some Cowboy Action shooting and I've had a Cabela's kit rifle (percussion 45) for about 30 years that still isn't all the way put together but getting closer; just need to brown the barrel. I finally got going on it after Montana brought out a "Heritage" ML season some years ago and it sounds interesting (but brutal - Montana in December, ya know?). I figure the 45 might be just the ticket for deer in some weapon restricted areas around here. I'd also like to pick up something a little bigger, probably a flintlock in 50 or 54.
Guess that's enough. Hope to do some reading and learning.

Welcome from California.

Hunting in Bob Marshall was Ok with the 50 but I wish I had a .62 flintlock Fowler for all time I spent on the Clarksfork and Blackfoot.

Welcome from Harlowton, MT! I got a buck a 2 years ago with my .45....it'll work!!

Welcome from New York State's Central-Leatherstocking region.

You can never go wrong with a 0.54 . . . but shot placement makes a 0.50 and even 0.45 just as good. But too much is always enough. ;-)

Muzzleloaders don't damage as much edible meat when you upscale. I'm lately partial to a smoothbore 0.66 that works great.
