I recently won a Pedersoli Bounty Hunter Flintlock .50 caliber flintlock pistol. I won it at a Holiday Gun Bash at a local gun shop. The gunsmith there is quite knowledgeable on muzzleloaders and said to start the load at 50 to 60 grains of powder. A lot of guys online I have found are using 60+grs of FFFG powder. This pistol has a 16" barrel, I dont have any 3FG powder just 2FG powder. Will 2FG Powder work in a pistol ? I assume it will, but I have never owned any muzzleoader with a barrel shorter than 32". My local state regs of Deer hunting are 60 grains of powder for a pistol and I would like to take this pistol out into the deer woods with me. I have a couple spots in the woods where the briars and brush are very thick and this pistol would work great as my shots arent further than 30 yards and shots out on the field behind where I hunt no more than 45 yards. Just trying to see if this pistol is gonna could fit into the freezer filler category or just be another gun in the paper puncher category.
Thanks to all who leave an opinon or their two cents on the post.
