This is what I ended up with after reading Recreating the 18th century powder horn.

Damm nice, if you ask me! Er...by the way..anyone know if perhaps some kind of template or such can be gotten where the design of letters are premade..then all one has to do is trace over it?

Couldn't you put a piece of carbon paper over the horn and then trace over the pattern you want on top of the carbon paper and on to the horn? Or won't this work?

scott :
if thats your first try at building a horn you have did an OUTSTANDING JOB ... PLEASE DON'T STOP
you should be very proud of that horn its a dandy !! i know i'm impressed :hatsoff: :hatsoff:

Great job, lehigh! Here's my humble attempt at horncraft. This first shot is of the backside. I got a little too artsy with both the scrimshaw work and the spout carving.

Then after lurking on this forum for a while and seeing the more authentic work of others(this now includes your fine horn :hatsoff:) I decided to redo the spout. In this image you can see my map side of the horn and the reworked spout along with my matching priming horn and powder measure.

I wish I knew how to get that octogon shape at the spout neck like you and many others have done. Maybe someday I'll buy that book. You did a very fine job!

thanks for the input guys,
Nice horn Jaegermeister  I just used a course half round file to make the hex shape. I made four sides square first then finished the corners off for the hex shape.
The book is nice, I would recommend it.
