Just aquired this little knife thru some trading and thought I would make a nice sheath for it.Its a Lone hunter made knife that he posted a few days ago and it is waay better than the pictures. Here is what i came up with.
Didn't want to make it to heavy so its made from 6-7 oz veg-tan leather with a full welt and hand sewn. Hope you like it.

Very nice sheath! :shocked2: I would throw that ole junk knife away and wear the sheath!

Now don't you be badmouthin my knife. I like that knife and I don't think the sheaths good enough for it. :blah:

I love both pieces. Great work.

But... it looks like a 1750's French knife in a 1880's sheath.

Still looks great!

I really like the looks, but have a practical concern that might be borne out in use and require a mod. That handle sits high above the belt loop, and with an unsecured knife like that, it's likely to "hop" out of the sheath every time it hangs on something.

Can you guess how I garnered that insight?

In my hands and in our brush (and on my pants), this style of sheath works best if the top of the belt loop sits at the top of the handle or even a little higher.

Aw, go on.... I'm just giving you an excuse to do some more of your fine work!

Short term fix if it turns out to be a problem is a tie loop or strap passed through the belt loop and around the handle.

BB, now why would I have my nice new sunday go to meetin knife out in the brush :shocked2: :rotf:

Seriously, That will be a dressup sheath I totaly agree that it wouldn't work to good out in the tag elders.
Thanks all for your kind words.

Good answer!

I can say it sure would be a lot easier to get to the knife, set up the way you have it!

I kinda have to "fish" for mine with them slung lower and more of the grip covered. The knob on yours would make that easier, and I'm going to keep that design in mind next time around.

Thanks!

Bill, I have made quite a few 1851 holsters and the slim jim style will always be my favorite. Thats probably where the idea for this one came from. :idunno:
