I just wanted to extend a huge thank you to everyone in the forum.

After reading a few books on military tactics of the past, I decided I wanted to give muzzleloading a try (I've shot many modern guns before, but never a muzzleloader) and ordered a Long Land Bess from MVTCo and accessories from ToTW. This morning I successfully put multiple balls down range (and kept them on the paper!).

I'm still smiling from ear-to-ear.

Thank you to everyone on the board for sharing your knowledge and experiences. I'm hooked!

HA HA!!! YER HOOKED!WELCOME to the club! keep at it! might as well there are NO known cure, (course no one is lookin fer one either! :blah: ) RC

Good on you and welcome to the dark side..Its an addiction so be careful

FT , How is the wood finish on your MVTC Bess ? I am plotting to get one too .

Howdy!

I got my Bess from MVTC last week, but haven't shot it yet.I play with it every day though!

How is shooting with only a front sight?

James

CK, the only comparison I have is to a Pedersoli Bess I'd seen at the local Cabelas. Overall, the MVTC wood is good but, as others have noted, a bit rough. The grain pattern is a bit larger than what's on the Pedersoli. I had concerns that it would be 'too red' as some have noted on the forum but mine was true to what you see on their website and is plenty brown for me (note, I *am not* as knowledgeable as others here on what the correct color should be). Comparing again the Ped. to the MVTC, the barrel, lock and wood on the MVTC all have more shine.

Overall I like the MVTC more than the Ped. and am very happy with the purchase. I went with MVTC because of the positive comments on the forum and the warranty offered. Wendy was wonderful, especially given that this was my first front-loader.

Sham, I only had time to put four balls down range and was shooting on a piece of paper 22" x 28" at 15 yards. It wasn't too bad. The first shot went high, the second low and the third dead-on center. I flinched on my fourth (should have quit while I was ahead) and was *way* low. I'll have it out again this weekend for more practice. All I can say is get out there and shoot yours!

Congrats to you. Wish we could get more guys get hooked in Germany!

Cool!! another convert to this strange and wonderous hobby we have all found ourselves in!! Have fun with the Bess! :v

FT,

Be very careful, like any “addiction” it starts off by telling yourself, “I will just get one and try it”¦” Then it will be two, or three, then casting your own round balls on and on.

So it goes, until you find yourself sitting up late one night working on the first kit gun. Enjoy your new “toy”, I have been shooting front stuffers since 1990, and have built that first kit.

That's great! It wasn't long ago that I got my first flintlock, and I too owe a lot to this forum in getting me started off right. It's kinda like being a kid again with your first shotgun, ain't it. Every shot is a thrill. :)
