I recently, like Monday, got a 14 gauge single shot. It's smooth but has rifle sights. That never stopped Dad from murdering quail with his Deerslayer.

Anyway, I'm guessing a light 12 bore or heavy 16 load may be the ticket. And I'll definitely be looking for round ball.
The bore mics .691 with my cheap RCBS dial calipers.

I have plenty of info from old books regarding loads for the 14. I'm wondering what Actual Owners of 14 bores use?

I'll get pics later today.

Thanks in advance.

Here she is.

The inletting is surprisingly good, the lock and buttplate. The thimbles are soldered 45 Long Colt cartridges, the ramrod end a 38 special shell with a washer screwed into the flash hole!! The lock has too much wood under it, but it's a working gun. Oh... she's left handed.

I have shot .678 balls out of mine. Worked better with a wool wad over powder and over the ball than a patched ball. Never got it to shoot as good as I wanted but I didn't try to much as I got different guns to play with that worked better.
