I went ahead and refinished it to the best of my limited abilities.
I shortened the square, cut off forend, and rounded it. Scraped
and sanded off quite a bit of wood from the forend and belly.
Got rid of the ledges along the barrel channel on the forend.
Stained it a Dark Walnut and decided to leave the metal in the
White, at least for now. I took the lock all apart and polished it
all up inside and the pan. Also discovered why i was having some
issues with slow ignition. I pulled the breech plug and found that
the threads went clear past the vent hole. They had drilled about
an 1/8" hole in the barrel for the vent and then drilled a 1/16"
hole through the breech plug into the small powder chamber
drilled into the end of the plug. I opened that hole up as much
as i could and then drill the 1/16" hole in the side of the plug ot to 1/4".
Only thing i have left is to drill and tap the vent hole and install the 1/4"
x28 vent liner i ordered from TOTW which should be here tomorrow along
with the bit and countersink. Included some after pic. The before pics are
up top.
