I went in a pawn shop today on the way home from the gun show. He had 2 T/C Hawkens one flintlock with a very newish looking .50 T/C 1:66 roundball barrel that I managed to get for $150.00. The stock was somewhat over sanded, and the spur cut off the triggerguard.

The other was a pretty clean .50 precussion for $95.00 that looked like someone had tried to remove the breech plug with a pipe wrench. I'm betting I could clean up the marks on the barrel with a file and reblue it. I wish I knew why they were trying to remove the breechplug?????The stock would have looked good on the flintlock that I bought (will it fit?)

I have seen parts on ebay just today. the stock you can probablly save with a little work.

I'm betting I could clean up the marks on the caplock barrel with a flat punch by carefully pushing the metal back to where it belongs, then drawfile and reblue it.

I may go back & get the caplock. The parts I don't need I can sell to recover most of what I spent.

I have a centerfire wildcat barrel from Australia that some bush gunsmith used a pipe wrench on. My thought for removing the marks as well as I can is to take a flat punch and regrind the end to match the ball end of a ball peen hammer, then apply that to the curled up metal. I think it would leave fewer marks that a regular flat punch. After that I'd drawfile and refinish the barrel, as you are thinking about doing.

I went back and got the caplock today for $95.00. It has one really awesome looking dark red walnut stock! The barrel seems perfect except for the marks on the outside. All the flintlock parts swapped right over. The case finish on the spare percussion lock is the nicest I've ever seen.

I SENT MINE TO thompson.

it had nicks on barrel and bluing was not good.

they charged me 40 dollars to fix all those knicks and reblue it.

great deal and barrel looks new.

might want to try that, they will fix your breech plug too.

I WOULD SEND THE WHOLE GUN IN AND ASK THEM TO GO OVER IT FOR YOU AND SEND YOU BACK A ESTIMATE ON COST TO REPAIR.

YOU MAY FIND IT REAL CHEAP TO BRING THAT GUN BACK TO LIFE.

Here's what I ended up with. I'll have less than $150.00 in it, plus I ended up with a like new spare percussion lock and a nice extra rammer.
