Hello all, I am new to muzzleloading and this board and have a few questions for you. I ordered a great plains hunter in .54 caliber last week and am wondering if there is a good pre packaged accessory kit out there to buy or if I'm better off buying my accessories seperately.

Thanks for any input

systemanfry,
cabela's has nice accessories kits as does dixie or any number of other b/p outlets and any of them would probably serve your purpose. but :imo: you are better off buying them seperate that way you can kind of customize them to your needs. i bought a kit when i got started and it was not very long before i had replaced everything in that kit with something i liked or suited me better. :m2c: :results:

I've never seen anything put together by a company that I'd purchase. Much of it is poor at best in my eyes.
: Go to Track and select what you need from their on-line catologue. There are other outfits, but Track has always been good for me, and that's where I shop most of the time.
: They also have some very reasonably priced Possible's Bags.
: I prefer to make my own short starters from Ramin dowel (hardware store- Home depot, etc) and an antler section - Moose or elk are best. Otherwise, a round maple ball can work, or a squared-cornered 2 1/2" dia. maple chunk, with the ramin shaft glued-in on one surface, top or bottom? 1/2" or 7/16" is just fine for the starter and the remainder(they come 48" long) makes a good range rod as well. All rod tips, etc, can be purchased at Track as well.

systemanfry,
since you are new to b/p shooting i can only assume that track don't mean JSTU. i hope what daryl is talking about is www.trackofthewolf.com and that being the case he is right they are good people to deal with :imo:

Check out the section titled "Muzzleloading Links" at the top of the main page TOTW and many other retailers are listed there. You can spend hours browsing the various sites of retailers of everything from knives to guns to powder.
