I recently acquired a pistol that I plan to renovate into a colonial era pistol. It is marked jukar and spain on the barrel. Does anyone know this company or anything about it. I would like to replace the mainspring and would like to be able to name the pistol make when I order it. It also has a funny touchhole that goes in diagonally. Any help, as always, is greatly appreciated.

jukar was the name on all the old cva muzzle loaders from a couple of decades ago. They were inexpensive but accurate and reliable guns. It may be that Jukar is still the source for guns from Thunder Ridge and others http://www.thunder-ridge-muzzleloading.com/cva_rifle revised.htm
see kentucky pistol

If this is the case, the lockwork is likely to fit your pistol. I have had a number of partial kits and find that the locks are drop in fits among them.

I had a barrel marked JUKAR on a CVA "tower" style pistol kit. That was the only marking on the barrel that I could find. The flash hole was plain and did not have a liner, and it did go through at an angle. The gun made a nice little .45 pistol, and was rifled, but had no sights. Don't know if it was supposed to be that way, as there were no instructions with the kit (I had bought it used).

I have had other single shot pistols over the years that had JUKAR, Spain, and caliber marked on them. Some of them were CVA guns as well. A "CVA" mainspring ought to work. You may want to contact Deer Creek as I'm pretty certain they have what you need (and other parts too).

Good Luck on your project!

Well, the pistol now has a decent mainspring that I took off an old cva hawken. This where the work begins.I'm gonna have the barrel turned octagon to round. Maybe install a buttcap, work the stock down to make it look earlier. Hopefully have a neat little pistol by spring. I appreciate the help!!!

That sounds like a great project. If possible, could you post a few pics along the way, and some when it's finished? Thanks. :)

No you don't! Most photo departments (like WalMart, Target, Winn Dixie, etc) have the option of uploading the photos to a website for a minor fee. Of course, I have seen digital cameras for as cheap as $10 each...

I recently bought one of those as well, unfired. The vent hole is angled backward to meet the pan, and the nose cap screw holes look a tad deep-bored into the barrel. I'm told it's an out-of-production CVA tower pistol, and like yours the lock is simply marked "Spain".

The frizzen is unstruck, and I'm leaning towards not being the first to try it. Have you fired yours? If so, how reliable was it?

Thanks Hillbilly!

well I havent shot as of yet but will this weekend. If you decide to pass her on, let me know. They aren't the finest firearms but everyone I know has never had anything dangerous to say about them. Sure would love a tower model. Mine is the hawken version.

Let me know how you make out.

I have toyed with the notion of selling, but I have no idea what it's worth. Here's what my CVA Tower looks like:

Pistol's a little dusty from a recent move. Pics are thumbnails that enlarge when you click them.

I've found more answers in one week here than the entire time I've search other groups.
