I opened the box from TOW that came several days ago and low and behold all the parts were there and nothing was damaged! I guess that it is time to clean off the bench, dig out the tools and get started on a new French Fusil circa 1730.....it was a good reason(excuse) to buy a new drillpress and a couple of other badly needed (wanted) tools.

t.g. over time i have come to appreciate your intellectual integrity and well researched approach to historic arms and their modern renditions. i would therefore be very interested in any thoughts you would be willing to share concerning your selection of parts and intended modifications i know you have planned. i am sure there must have been at least hundreds of questions asked and decisions made and would be grateful for any light you could share on your resolutions to these dillemas.

take care, daniel

TG, to enhance your "PC" French Fusil circa 1730 building experience, have you ever considered using period correct tools?

It would seem like the logical next step to achieve your overall PC-awareness...

After all, a PC gun made with modern tools is just a PC gun made with modern tools...

But a PC gun made with antique tools of that era brings the builder one step closer to the actual experience lived by the gunsmiths of long ago...

TG,

I've actually built one of Tracks Fusil's, and it turned out to be one of my favorite pieces.
Quite easy to assemble and complete.
I'm not sure which one you purchased, but I bought the one with the Colerain barrel.
It's a nice looking piece, and shoots like a champ.
Did have to do a little barrel bending to make it shoot to center, but now it does, and it's a blast.
Good Luck :peace: ::

TG,

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but how did you accomplish the bending?

I use a couple of 4x4 blocks to clamp the barrel to. then a gage in the middle to measure the barrels "as is" dimensions. Obviously, you need to know which direction to bend it. Then, using c, or bar clamps, bend the barrel that direction( about twice the amount you need to.
After the clamp is removed, use a feeler gage or drill bit the right size to measure the amount of deflection. Go a little at a time, be conservative. IT WORKS.
Unfortunately, the only way to tell if it's finished, is to shoot it. Repeat as necessary. :results:
