Hello all. Well I did it! I finally Got my father interested in flintlocks. He is looking for a hunting rifle. A really nice rifle. Price cap around 3k. He would like the caliber to be .58, or .54 as he intends this as a hunting rifle Swamped barrel is important. He is not too concerned about the style AS LONG as it is not a rifle style that dates after the Revolution. He will ALSO consider a bigger gauge fowler. 16 or 12. He is purely concerned about hunting. I will show him any offers received. Thanks!

I have this TVM Early Virginia flintlock, but it's .50 caliber and a straight barrel. Still, I'd sell it for $1300

With a budget up to $3,000, you have a lot of options, including some very nice custom guns and rifles. You may want to wander over to the ALR forum and check the classifieds there. They almost always have something interesting up for sale, and there is currently an outstanding rifle by Brian Barker, modestly described as a "frontier parts rifle," in .54 caliber, for $3k, and a Caywood Chief's gun with interchangeable barrels, one in .54 and one 28 gauge smoothbore for $2,100. I realize your dad wants a larger gauge smoothbore, but at that price, it's like you get the extra barrel for free.

Good luck in your search!

I have a .72 rifle. Oregon, 1:104, barrel on a Pete Allen action with walnut butt and fore arm. Never been fired. Asking $1500 plus shipping.
