Well Sir, the grease is of the stiff sort and won't mix with the powder unless the cartridges are stored in a hot evironment. In the old days this was a problem with paper cartridges both of the minié type and roundball type. The lube melted and soaked into the powder portion of the paper. I use a mix of deer tallow and beeswax for paper cartridges which is pretty dry and stiff.
Only the paper that covers the ball is dipped in lube. The cartridge is first dipped in molten lube, then dried and finally the powder is poured into it.
