Nipple knowledge

Do you know what thread dimension nipple to order for a Mowery rifle? I want to order some spares for a new-to-me gun, and I don't have a thread gauge to check.

Take the nipple out, measure the diametre then hold it against an inch rule and
count the number of threads, multiply to get the number per inch then consult thr thread charts on Google to find that dIametre thread
Probably be a standard thread.

I’ll pull the nipple on my Mowery in the morning and let you know.
The nipple is 1/4”x 28

Should be 1/4 28.

Take the nipple to a hardware store. Try threading into various bolt sizes until you find a fit.

That's what I have on my American rifles. I converted to use musket caps. number 11 caps will let you down in cold weather! I wonder if guns made in Italy use metric sizes for everything? I know they cannot be "exact" copies to prevent passing repo's off as priceless origionals.

I have a Mowrey. The nipple is indeed 1/4 x 28

Most hardware stores have a thread gauge mounted to the wall by the nuts and bolts.

Thank you all for the advice and info. I thought the spec might be 1/4 ×28, but figured I ought to check.
