Well, I made it too the Southeastern on Friday....afternoon, durring a torrential rain storm that covered 4 states and for 24 hours. :curse: After 40 or more miles out of my way...thier maps are wrong on the internet :curse: ::for which no one tried to correct since they have been up for months. Should have known better and looked at a real map. :no:I then proceeded to the site. Well, talk about unprepared and few sighns to get you to camp :what:Yes, there was one at a cross roads, one at the turn...but would you believe they didn't have any when you got to the actural camp turn off :what:You ended up in someones drive way. After circumnavigating the very wet, slippery, slick, white clay sany
roads...in 4 wheel drive...and with the help of neighbor who lived there...I made it. :shocking:
This was white knuckle time trying not to loose my trailer on the slippry dirt road. You know how Ford Exporer are suppose to be top heavy and roll over....this one almost did. :nono: :nono:Not wanting to be a road block...I finally made it to the check in gate. Not it is still pouring buckets of water and I get out of the nice dry car...3rd mistake of the day. :bull:
The lady told me this little storm would go away in a couple of hours. Boy...do rendevouzers know how to spin the truth. Hey, I had just been on the weather site with my computer..I knew better. Too bad I didn't have the new fangle GPS in it. :results: Next trip...we will be really computerized....maybe. Wait till you read the rest of this.
Well, I drove in anyway...as much in 4 wheel drive as you can and trying not to mess up the "roads" as possible.
When the car sinks into the groud when you stop...you know you have made camp. :results: Talked to some nice people from Tennessee, boy, were there some people from Tennessee and Kentucky all over the place. The traders had been there for a few days so they were set WAY up before the rain storms hit. Saw some other old friends and Calico Traders..all wearing their primitive snorkle gear and "Ductch" waders.
To make this longer story longer...it was 4 in the afternoon and decided, since Jacksonville was only 2 or so hours back...I would leave...and come back on Sunday or Monday and set up in DRY weather. Now don't call me a fair weather camper...but even Noahs' Ark would have thought twice about setting sail in this. The high tide was in. :sorry: :youcrazy:
Anyway...I pulled out as best I could, met two guys who were trying to figure out if the road was safe to take their vehicle through...there was a stream crossing the road at this point....and they were not tooooooo sure how deep it was... :: ::well, leave it to the lady with the 4 wheel drive...I plowed through up to my doors and kept on going. Now whether they made it is a story I didn't say to see. The road was now crossed by severy wash outs and I was just praying to make it to a real road. Now what are those in the back parts of Fla/Geo.
OK...I made it home...well, sorta.
My plans of going back in my own car and camp are now
Down the Drain and sitting in my drive You know that "check engine" light that comes on and all haties breaks loose..... :shocking:it did with my car. It will be in the shop for a few days getting worked on.
So...there went my wonderfull camping trip to the Southeastern. Will be going out Sunday with some friends as day trippers :curse:. Not quite the same...but I am there? :what:
