I checked both my 58 Rem and 60 Colt last night and neither have a gain twist that I could see. These guns were purchased in the late 80s as I remember. MD
What gave you the idea that their supposed to have gain twist?
Or that the human I eye could actually determine a change from 1-9 to 1-10 in 7"s?

The California shooters at the WNS tend to like the gain twist in Pietta's. I am only repeating what I hear and have no knowledge but from listening to them.
I prefer Uberti and lust for a Pedersoli, but $1,000 is a bit much for me.
To get the gain twist rifiling in a Pietta Remington you either need the Navy Arms Deluxe Remington or the DGW Shooters Revolver. Cabelas also carried it for a while but have not seen it in their catalogue for quite a while. These guns are expensive.
Original Colts had gain twist.
If you look down a clean bore and follow the edge of any one of the lands you can see if it has any helix or is straight even as it makes a partial turn.
One learns this from checkering around curves on forearms. MD
+1 The Pietta "Shooters Model" is very expensive and mine needs a .460 ball as a .457 will push in the cylinder chambers with finger pressure. The Shooters model will have a silver plated trigger guard, dovetailed front sight, checkered hammer spur and the gain twist rifling and a hair trigger. In addition they have the Remington address on the top flat.
I looked quite a bit ant that is the only pistol that I could find with gain twist. I'm sure there are other features as well but at $700 I'll pass! Geo. T.
