I bought a 1 1/4" arch punch and after a bit of machining to get a better cutting angle and sharpening it up a bit, I'm ready to cut patches.
How many of you make round patches?

I've been lucky to have found and bought big lots of prelubed Oxyoke and TC patches at a steal somewhere every year so I haven't gotten into making them yet...but if I ever do I think I'll just make them square using my Wife's mat & rotary cutter...and if I sweet-talk her just right, might even get her to cut them

I've bought a bunch of pre-lubed round patched from the local sportsman store and figured a $15 punch and a yard or two of ticking from wally world might not be a bad investment.
I already made 120 patches .015" from a shop rag, a few hundred more and I'm close to even.

I use two hole saws with the teeth ground off and an edge put on. I use a 1 1/4" for the .32 and .36 and a 1 3/8 for .50 to .58. I chuck them up in the drill press and can zing out a lot of patches in a short amount of time. I like using the hole saws because I can do two or three layers of cloth at once.

Square patches are easier to make and work prefectly.

and you can cut them right there at the muzzle after you pull the strip of pillow ticking out of your mouth!

And pillowticking helps create spit in us older shooters, loooks unsanitary nd helps gross flatlanders out hehehe

Nothing wrong with my homemade prelubed squares.
Gonna try someones idea of hanging them on a string (thinking outside the bag).

I believe the quote is "thinking outside the box" not outside the BAG, unless, of course, you are frequently "in the bag". :haha:

I have a whole box full of punches for making patches and wads...........

Just started making patches, square Wally World Pillow Ticking, my rilfe shoots better than using store bought ones. $4 for about a 1,000 patches ... what a deal. Use Canola Oil as my lube.

I also make my own patches, square, from WalMart pillow ticking. I use the stripes on the material, as a guide to cut them. (sharp pair of scissors) Easy, fast, and they shoot as good as any store bought patch, I've ever used.

I have used square patches and they work great. I just needed a reason to buy a punch

The punch works better when I twist it through a stack of cloth. Whacking it doesn't work quite as well.

Do wedding veils make good patching when they are finished with :winking:
Not if the bride is still wearing it.

I use a modified hole saw with the teeth removed in my drill press.
Yesterday I punched out over 250 patches in about 5 minutes by cutting thru 5 layers of WalMart Ticking. :)

Started using square cut .020 pillow at 1 1/2" and I don't plan on going back to round production patches!

I shoot pure linen patching, and you can't buy that easily. I have a cardboard round that I draw circles with on the linen than I cut them out when I get time. I can cut out 100 in just an hour or two, and that will last me a whole shooting season.

I can cut a 100 square patches in less than 10 minutes. You can rip the long strips, and then cut them into squares.

If'n ya use the silk weddin dress, ya'll get an extra 40 yards. Probably a deevorse too.
