Howdy all,
Due to recently enacted "Laws" forbidding lead bullets in Condor(big buzzard) territory, I'm trying to find a non toxic round ball/bullet in .32 cal. Do any of you have experience with Bismuth/antimony Buckshot ? I'm wondering if 00 buck could be crammed into a .32 ?
Thanks in advance for any info
Steve

YOu would want to find #1 buck shot, which is .30 caliber to use with a patch in that .32. Both of those metals tend to be brittle, so I would not expect them to be a very good choice for a PRB. However, I have never even see bithsmuth/antimony buckshot for sale, much less used it. Right now, there is NO substitute for a lead ball in .32 caliber that is non-toxic. When the condors starting eating the kittens and puppies of the suburbanites, the law will be changed. Find somewhere else to hunt. Of course, before they get to the cats and dogs, they will clean up on the squirrels, song birds, etc. There will be lots of hollars and screaming from the bird lovers before the petlovers join the chorus. Sometimes, STUPID just has to be allowed to run its course.

You could cast them from tin, but it ain't cheap. I don't understand the condor fuss, they mostly eat roadkill nowadays in which the only lead might be a wheelweight or two. Maybe after they've been exterminated by the evergrowing number of hybrids on the roads a little sanity might return to CA. Probably not.

Another area to explore might be what "Van" is doing -- cloth patch of a bullet. A long shot perhaps but better than nothing. I always wondered if those "plinker" bullets in .30 cal (about 90-100 grains IIRC) would work with a thick patch. Or does that law ban any lead in the bullet so you have to use totally copper bullets?

No lead whatsoever, I'm afraid. I thought maybe sizing down a bismuth 00 buckshot might work, if I can find some...
There's no science behind the law, just opinion and inuendo. There was 1 dead bird, and it had a very small amount of lead in the tissue, so, Ergo, must have been those nasty hunters...
Somehow, they forget to mention the half dozen that died from ingesting antifreeze... No talk of banning cars !
