Actually the opposite. I would like to find a smith that can put a slight amount of swage meaning squeeze down the first 4 to 6 in.
Of barrel starting at muzzel and back. My FIL
Had an old pump model 12 I think that had 9 in. Of barrel swage tighter that factory. They took some of rib off to do thus. It was is turkey shoot piece. Anyone got any ideas on a smith?I'm thinking Mod or I'm.

I don’t own a jug choked barrel , but it’s my understanding that basically it is the same principle you’re referring too..compressing the shot near the muzzle.

Only difference is the shot spreads as it enters the choke portion of the barrel, then constructs back too produce an improved / tighter pattern.

If I’m not mistaken older barrels were choked from the breech end towards the muzzle…cone shaped , more or less.

What’s wrong with a jug choke?

I don't understand this either.
Constricting the muzzle makes placing wads and cards more difficult, reduces ability to use roundball, and is actually not an accurate way to determine choke. (Amount of choke not being a simple measurement, it is a measurement that is in relation to the bore diameter and any backboring)
But some people want to take doing things the hard way to the enth degree, and to each there own I guess.

Maybe we will learn something new if the o.p. lays out some sound reasoning for doing things this way.
