Just received my new Traditions .50 cal. KY flinter today. It looks like they inletted the barrel so low (or the lock so high) that they had to take a drill to the pan. They had to notch the pan on the barrel side to expose the touch hole. So there's a divot in the left side of the pan.

Does this sound okay? I haven't fired it yet and could send it back for a replacement if this is a problem.

Thanks :thanks:

That's kind of what I was thinkin'. I've dealt with holes being forward or back but not low like this. It looks like most of the flash would hit the top of the hole liner.

I had a Traditions Pa. Longrifle that had the same probem. Only difference is I got it for almost nothing cause the previous owner was disgusted with it. I had to dremel tool down the pan so the touch hole was exposed. It never really shot well and the area erroded a bit more with shooting. The lock had problems too. Some Traditions flinters work like champs and some have problems. I converted mine to percussion and use it for a knock around that I don't worry about getting dinged up. Works great. If it was me, since its brand new and not right, and I paid good hard earned money for it, I'd want them to make it right. :m2c:

Thanks for the advice, fellas. After reading your replies, I sent an email to the folks I bought it from. They said to send it right back. They already went through their stock and are holding a better one for exchange.
:thanks:
