About 20 of us at our local Gun Club in Old Bridge NJ have been shooting the NRA Qualification targets for both pistol and rifle. These Matches are accomplished on an additional shooting day other than the usual League Sunday, and man are they FUN! Most of the League members are currently participating :) .

For pistol, 25 yard B-16 targets are used, and you take 13 shots, and the worst 3 get thrown-out! As of now I'm a Sharpshooter in pistol.

For rifle, we use the same targets, and start at the 25 yard distance. That's for Pro-Marksman and Marksman levels. Next comes the Marksman First Class and Sharpshooter levels. Expert requires an aggregate score of 240x400, fired from both 50 and 100 yards. I just made Expert along with 3 other guys a couple of Sundays ago. Distinguished Expert isn't far off :) .

Anybody else on this Forum ever shoot the Qualifiers? They're a real BLAST! . And doing it with friends in a League atmosphere is really nice too! Hat pins, certificates, patches and rockers for the different levels are all earned during the Matches. I recommend this activity for anyone interested in becomming a better BP shot...it really makes you concentrate, yet at the same time gives you a great feeling of satisfaction when climbing up the ladder.

Keep your powder dry! :haha:

Thanks Guys! :)

Can't wait till Sunday--The Black Powder League is having a regular monthly Match, then we light the grill and have a bbq, with all of the fixin's. One of the guys is even bringing fresh killed venison, that's marinating as you read this! Man is that stuff good on the grill!!

More NRA Rifle Qualification Matches are set in upcomming weeks...will keep you posted!
