Hey everyone. I stumbled across your site when doing research for an upcoming purchase. Looks like a good bit of information, so hopefully I can learn something around here.
I have been shooting traditional muzzleloaders (well...A traditional muzzleloader) intermittently for the last several years. A few years ago, my interest swung to milsurp bolt actions...but now I've really got an itch to get back to "thundersticks" (what my dad used to call his Hawken). My mom bought it for him as a kit from Cabela's for their anniversary when I was about 8, and he and I built it together. It hasn't been shot much in the last couple of years, but it sure makes one heck of a wall hanger in his "man cave".
I'm looking to buy (err...build, actually) my own rifle once my tax return shows up in a few weeks. At present, it's looking like the front runner is a Great Plains Rifle kit in .50/percussion. I can't wait to get started on it.
Anyway, I guess "hello" really about covers it.
P.S.
If you have anything good or bad to say about the GPR, please, by all means, PM me about it (as to avoid cluttering the intro thread). Likewise, if you have another recommendation for a traditional percussion in .50 or greater that has a nice, slow rifling rate and is < $400, let's hear it.
Cheers,
Murf
