While I am waiting for my trade gun from North Star West I have been thinking about how I should finish it when I get it.Should I brown it, blue it varnish the stock etc.I think I would like to have it as historicaly correct as possible but I'm not exactly sure what that is.All opinions appreciated.I don't expect to get it befor the end of September..thanks...rusty

Historically correct? I'd leave all the metal in the white and dunk the stock in a big barrel of varnish. :winking:

Mike's right, certainly, but another question to ask is "what period are you portraying?" There are records of orders for blued barrels after 1800 (earliest source I saw was I think 1809). They look good bright, though. Good choice in guns you made.
