I was at a local gun shop today and saw a couple of muzzleloading shotgun barrels on the clearance table. They are marked Toledo Firearms and are 12 gauge. They are half octagon and half round. Does anyone have any information on these? Do they have any value? One appeared to be unfired, but both need some TLC. They are hooked breech barrels.

If original & Belgian proof marked, I would have grabbed them. The Belgians had some of the best proofing of all the old barrels.

These barrels were around in the 1980's or so. I have owned a couple of them. Made to fit T/C Hawken/Renagade and other make guns. They made both 15/16 and 1" barrels. They were rough made barrels but seemed to shoot well. Seemed to hold up well to fairly heavy charges (1 1/2 oz shot to 80 FFF). They did make the gun kick pretty good. Made for a pretty light wt. Hawken when the barrel was put on. I have shot trap and taken turkeys with them. If I remember the went for around $50 or $60 back then.

Thanks for the info! The next time I am over that way, I will check on them again.

Well, I went by and picked up the barrels to save them from another 20 years in the gun vault. The owner told me that they were made to fit the Renegade. I have an Investarms Hawken, and compared the barrels. If I had the .54 caliber, they would fit that as well. They are 28.5" long and 1" across the flats. As I stated before, they are octagon for about half the length, then round (with some detailing to sort of look like a wedding band) If anyone is interested in one, drop me a line. I have a .50 caliber, so they don't fit my rifle and would be happy to sell them for what I paid!

After taxes, I have a little over $55 in each barrel. If someone wants to trade, I could use a .50 cal Thompson Center barrel. I have a TC Hawken that has a RUINED barrel. The rust in it is horrible, and the nipple has been drilled out - obliterating the threads...
