would members please post pictures of theirs and views on quality also what is the actual bore size i have seen it listed as a 65 66 and 67

I understand that North Star West gets their barrels from Long Hammock. You could go to them as ask what the diameter is of bore in their barrels for that Officer's Model. Le Grand

Get in contact with Matt at NSW (www.northstarwest.com) or at [email protected]. He will be able to answer all your questions about barrels and lengths as well as other options. The phone number is 406-822-8778.

Or you could call NSW and ask....... :hmm:

Their web site shows it as a .66 bore with a 37 1/2 barrel

Maybe it is a .66 cal(ballsize) meant to be used with a .66 ball inthe .675 tube this would be in line with original combos.

Matt's web page hasn't been updated in a while. Its best to talk with him before you start believing stuff in a Dixie catalog. By the way, they use Longhammock blanks and profile them in their own shop. Matt Denison is a real good guy. He'll be able to answer any question you have.

Good point Sean, at any rate the tolerances for theseguns would likley be quite liberal they were made to shoot a particular ball size with considerable windage. they list a ,66 bore to use a .65 ball which is snug by most smoothie standards whatevr it may be it is likley within the range of historicaly corect and will be a good gun to have and will probably shoot well with a ball from .570 on up with the proper patch.
I can run .535/,550/.562 and .570 thru my .58 fusilgood luck with your search I think you are going in the right direction with N,Starr

I've got one, had it for years and love it. I'm not totally sure of the ball size, I ordered the ball mold when I bought the gun but I'm pretty sure the mold is .65 and with medium patching is easy to thumb start. The accuracy is good for a smoothbore. I won't post pictures cause it was the first kit I ever built and didn't do a good job on it . I had a lock issue once I think the sear broke, when I called Matt about buying a new part (I'd had the gun for over 5 years at that point) he wanted me to send him the lock which he replaced the part and tuned the whole lock at no cost to me other than shipping. He was also very helpful in trying to figure out how it broke in the first place. Overall it was excellent customer service and I recommend them highly.

Hey guys. I always seem to come in on the tail end of these discussions. I regret that I don't take the time to check in as often as I should. Here's the scoop on the Officer's Model bore size.

I am now getting my barrels bored and reamed by Riley Smith at Long Hammock Barrels. He tooled up especially for this barrel at my request. They are finished at .668 cal. I know that there has been some confusion about this in the past. Dixie has been running the same text on this gun for ever and it needs to be updated, sorry for that, I'm working with them on this but it takes time. Some of the earlier barrels were closer to .660 cal. but I wanted a tad bigger to make loading easier. Thus the .668 from now on. I can't express how great the barrels from Long Hammock are. They are extremely consistent, mirror finish, and I like dealing with Riley. He's proffesional and accomodating and just a Heck of a nice guy.

Not sure how much use this is going to be to you but my OB is .660. I use a .640 ball with a .020 patch. The patch is lubed with Stumpies M.S,

I also use a thick felt wad dipped in wonderlube 1000. The whole lot goes down on 85g of TS2 which I believe is the same as your Geox but you should check that with Matt. This is my pb, shot off hand at 50yds. There are 13 holes in the target of which the best 10 count,it scores a 90.
